Workers at the GKN Factory in Florence Italy are in the third year of their heroic occupation of their factory to prevent mass redundancies. They are fighting and winning as they transform their factory production from car parts to environmentally friendly cargo bikes and solar panels. This inspirational struggle shows what a Just Transition can, and should, look like.

In December 2024 Edinburgh Climate Coalition held an online meeting to hear eyewitness accounts from the struggle. It was an opportunity to learn about this inspiring three-year fight and to discuss its relevance for Scotland today – what we can do to support it and what trade unionists and climate activists here can learn from it.
